Help for the difficult times
Making a complaint
If you have a complaint about a state school, try and resolve the issue using the Education Queensland complaints process. For complaints about school matters you are encouraged to use the following three step approach:
  1. Early resolution: the best place to raise concerns is at the point where the problem or issue arose. Depending on your concern, you might make your complaint to your child’s teacher, the principal or the Parents and Citizens’ Association/School Council.
  2. Internal review: if you are dissatisfied with the outcome or how the complaint was handled, you can ask the local Regional Office to conduct a review.
  3. External review: if you are dissatisfied after the internal review, you may wish to contact a review authority such as the Queensland Ombudsman and request an independent, external review.
Information for parents and carers is available on the Making a customer complaint factsheet (DOCX, 200KB).
If you haven’t been able to resolve your complaint with Education Queensland, you can approach the Queensland Ombudsman - make your complaint to us. The Ombudsman does not have the power to investigate complaints about private schools.

All complaints about non-state schools should firstly be made to the principal of the school and/or the school’s governing body.  Non-state school contact details are available in the schools directory.
For further advice about making a complaint or to find out the contact details for a governing body:
  • phone 13 QGOV (13 74 68)
  • email officeofnonstateeducation@qed.qld.gov.au
